Wilderness Medical Associates Courses

We believe that Wilderness Medical Associates offers, by far, the best medical training for the back country traveler. The principles-oriented approach, combined with a curriculum refined by years of practical experience and expertise, has proven exceptionally effective at all levels of training. Once you’ve taken one of our courses, you will never forget what to do because you will understand what needs to be done.

 

 

Wilderness First Responder (WFR): A seven day comprehensive course which has become the standard of training for Outward Bound instructors, guide services, and government agencies. Detailed description.

Wilderness EMT Upgrade / Rescue Medicine :  A five day course designed for currently certified EMT’s, Paramedics, and medical practitioners interested in enhancing their skills for use on search and rescue teams, or in other remote and challenging environments. Detailed description.

Open Recertification:  This three-day course recertifies Wilderness First Responder graduates of any qualifying wilderness medicine program. Successful candidates will receive full 3-year WFR certification through Wilderness Medical Associates. The Challenge Course also serves as a recertification course for Wilderness Medical Associates WFR, WAFA, and WEMT graduates.

Wilderness Advanced Life Support (WALS): A five day intensive course for paramedics, nurses, PA’s, and physicians, bringing the most appropriate and functional advanced skills and technology to the wilderness setting. Detailed description.

Specialized Courses and Seminars: Crested Butte Outdoors can design Wilderness medicine seminars that are tailored to the particular needs of your group

Wilderness Advanced First Aid:an excellent starting point for backcountry travelers with little or no medical background. The course covers the essentials of wilderness medicine including long term care considerations and several WMA Wilderness Protocols. 4 days.
