Passion, Purpose, Profession
Take just one course, and your life will be altered, forever.
Crested Butte Outdoors International (CBO), LLC was founded in 1997 by Susan Purvis because of her love of the outdoors. Her top-notch wilderness medical company empowers students who are looking for a bit more confidence and competence to manage problems in the outdoors.
Susan Purvis found her career leading her down on a path only a few brave women dare to venture. From exploration geology to avalanche dog rescue and wilderness medicine, her devotion to adventure and helping people has guided her to all corners of the earth: Antarctica, Africa, the Amazon Rain Forest, Latin America, and Nepal. Traveling either by foot, bicycle, skis, small plane, or boat, her thirty-year journey studying other cultures and their fragile environments has given her awareness to be a good steward of our heritage and the planet. It'sCBO's committment to teach others to do the same--to take care of themselves, their partner and their planet.
Susan believes if our job is to take care of our families, neighbors, and our planet, then we must first understand how to take care of ourselves. That is why Susan has dedicated 14 years to teaching wilderness medicine and outdoor survival courses. What she teaches matters, and her message save lives.
Her sound backcountry resumè along with years of medical experience and a solid understanding of the body systems curriculum developed by Wilderness Medical Associates, allows her to deliver a course that will change your life.
Most recently, Susan worked as a television host, wilderness medicine, and survival expert while exploring one of the most remote and hostile places on earth-- the Danakil Depression of Ethiopia--with a team of scientists. Their three week journey called, "The Hottest Place on Earth," aired on the BBC World and Discovery Channel in 2008.
