Recertification/Challenge Course :
Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness EMT, and Wilderness Advanced First Aid (3 Days)
Wilderness Medical Associates and Crested Butte Outdoors is offering a new course that will now allow graduates of ANY qualifying wilderness medicine program to recertify their training through Wilderness Medical Associates. This new WMA Challenge course is open to all students who have successfully completed a minimum 64-hour Wilderness First Responder, or similar level training course, and hold current certification. This program also serves as a recertification course for Wilderness Medical Associates WFR and WEMT graduates. The 24-hour Challenge™ Course is held over three days and will include classroom time, field work, homework and exams. Topics include WMA theory and practice as well as our wilderness protocols; spine assessment, wound management, CPR, dislocations, anaphylaxis, and asthma. We will also review patient assessment, BLS, critical systems, musculoskeletal injuries, wounds and burns, environmental medicine, allergies, and backcountry medicine. Texts are included in the cost of the course. |
Upon registration each student will be sent a pre-course study package and exam to be completed prior to arrival for class. While WMA courses are fun and interesting, they are also comprehensive and demanding. Conscientious preparation will significantly improve your enjoyment of the course, as well as enhance your chances for successful completion. Your completed pre-course package is required for admission. The days are very full and will demand your complete commitment. 100% attendance is required. Successful graduates will receive Wilderness First Responder certification from Wilderness Medical Associates, Inc. The certificate is valid for three years if accompanied by a valid CPR certification. Crested Butte Outdoors will usually make a CPR recertification course available during or immediately after each scheduled Challenge Course. You will be asked to present your card or certificate from previous training upon arrival for the course. Currently certified WFR graduates from established programs such as WMI, SOLO, First Lead, Aerie, and other similar institutions will qualify for admission. If you are uncertain about the eligibility of your training history, please contact Wilderness Medical Associates at 1-207-665-2707 or e-mail office@wildmed.com. Any questions? Please call: 970-596-2999
