Imagine an avalanche high in the mountains, a
missing 12 year old boy lost in the wilderness during a snowstorm, a collapsed
bridge, or simply an Alzheimer victim who has wandered off in the winter. There
is one search-and-rescue team that can find someone in any of these emergency
situations: a highly trained dog team.
Our Mission
The volunteer Crested Butte search
dog team is deeply committed to finding lost and missing persons in the
wilderness of Colorado. The
search dog team consists of Sue Purvis and her black Labrador Retriever, Tasha.

In their seventh
year, Sue and Tasha have made a difference. Last year Sue and Tasha found a
missing 12 year old boy alive in a blizzard in the Big Blue Wilderness Area.
Their dedication to training throughout Colorado has resulted in certifications
for Wilderness Airscent and Avalanche work with Search and Rescue
Dogs of Colorado (SARDOC). As a team, Sue and Tasha have responded to numerous
missions over the last several years.
The team deploys
locally with Crested Butte Search and Rescue, county-wide with the Gunnison
County Sheriff's department, and state wide with Search and Rescue Dogs of
Colorado (SARDOC). Sue and Tasha were invited to the 2002 Olympic games in Salt
Lake City as an Avalanche Dog Team.
